FinTech- Barclays moving closer to branchless future

My most favourited tweet last month was the repost of This Is Money post announcing the first signs of an inevitable trend in the world of retail banking – Barclays to get rid of cashiers from branches: ‘Community bankers’ armed with iPads will push customers to use machines.

This is of course only the beginning. Other banks will have to act on this trend soon, and more radical changes, like the ones announced by Barclays below, are sure to come. Branchless future- not so far away then?

Barclays said earlier this year that it could shrink its 1,600-strong branch network by a quarter and is currently piloting a scheme to move high street branches into Asda supermarket stores.
